1. Who we are
This website is operated by BolgiaTen Ltd (“we”, “us”, “our”).
Our website address is: https://www.bolgiaten.com.
We are the “data controller” of the personal data processed through this website for the purposes of the UK General Data Protection Regulation (“UK GDPR”) and the Data Protection Act 2018.
If you have any questions about this policy or how we use your data, you can contact us at pjm@bolgiaten.com
2. What personal data we collect and why we collect it
2.1 Comments
When visitors leave comments on the site, we collect the data shown in the comments form and, to help spam detection, the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string.
An anonymised string created from your email address (a “hash”) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available at: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture (if any) is visible to the public in the context of your comment.
2.2 Contact forms and email
If you contact us via a contact form or by email, we will collect the information you provide, which may include your name, email address, organisation, role and the content of your message.
We use this information to respond to your enquiry, provide our services, and maintain a record of our communications.
2.3 Media
If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.
2.4 Cookies and login details
We use cookies to make our website work and to improve your experience.
- If you leave a comment on our site, you may opt in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.
- If you visit our login page, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.
- When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.
- If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie includes no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires after one day.
For more detail on cookies and how to control them, see Section 3 – Cookies and analytics below.
2.5 Embedded content from other websites
Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, social media feeds, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website directly.
These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website. We do not control these third-party websites and are not responsible for their privacy practices.
2.6 Analytics and usage data
We may collect information about how visitors use our site, such as pages viewed, links clicked, approximate location, device and browser information, and session duration. This may be collected using cookies or similar technologies.
We use this information to understand how our website is used, to improve its content and functionality, and to maintain security.
We may use Google Analytics for this purpose; please refer to their privacy information for further details.
3. Cookies and analytics
Cookies are small text files placed on your device that help our website function and provide certain features.
We use the following types of cookies:
- Strictly necessary cookies – required for the basic operation of the site (e.g. security, login, comment functionality).
- Functional cookies – remember your preferences such as display options.
- Analytics/performance cookies – help us analyse how visitors use the site so we can improve it.
Where required by law, we will ask for your consent before placing non-essential cookies on your device. You can withdraw your consent or change your cookie settings at any time via your browser settings, which allow you to refuse all or some cookies. If you disable cookies, some parts of our site may not function properly.
4. Our legal bases for processing your data
We process your personal data on the following legal bases under the UK GDPR:
- Contract – where we need to process your data to enter into or perform a contract with you (for example, when you engage us to provide services).
- Legitimate interests – for our legitimate business purposes, such as responding to enquiries, operating and improving our website, maintaining security and preventing abuse, provided these interests are not overridden by your rights and interests.
- Consent – where you have given us clear consent to process your data for a specific purpose (for example, certain cookies or marketing communications). You can withdraw your consent at any time.
- Legal obligations – where we must process your data to comply with a legal or regulatory obligation.
5. Who we share your data with
We do not sell your personal data.
We may share your data with:
- Service providers who help us operate our website and services, such as hosting providers, email service providers, analytics providers and spam detection services. These parties are only allowed to process your data on our instructions and must keep it secure.
- Professional advisers such as lawyers, auditors or insurers where necessary in the course of the services they provide to us.
- Authorities where we are required to do so by law or in order to protect our rights or the rights of others.
If you request a password reset, your IP address will be included in the reset email.
6. How long we retain your data
We retain personal data only for as long as necessary for the purposes for which it was collected, including for any legal, accounting or reporting requirements.
In particular:
- If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognise and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.
- For users that register on our website (if any), we store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.
- Contact form submissions and email correspondence are generally kept for up to [X] years (or longer if needed for ongoing relationships or legal obligations).
We may retain anonymised or aggregated data that does not identify individuals for longer periods.
7. International data transfers
Our website and some of our service providers may be based outside the UK or may store data on servers located in other countries.
Where we transfer personal data outside the UK, we will ensure that appropriate safeguards are in place as required by the UK GDPR, such as:
- The country has been deemed to provide an adequate level of protection; or
- We have entered into standard contractual clauses or equivalent mechanisms approved by the UK authorities.
You can contact us for more information about the safeguards we use for international transfers.
8. Your rights under data protection law
Under the UK GDPR, you have a number of rights in relation to your personal data. These include the right to:
- Access – request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
- Rectification – ask us to correct any inaccurate or incomplete data.
- Erasure – ask us to delete your personal data in certain circumstances (“right to be forgotten”).
- Restriction – ask us to restrict the processing of your data in certain circumstances.

- Object – object to our processing of your data where we are relying on legitimate interests or processing for direct marketing.
- Withdraw consent – where we process data based on your consent, you can withdraw that consent at any time.
If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal or security purposes.
To exercise any of these rights, please contact us using the details in Section 9.

In the UK, this is the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO):
Website: https://www.ico.org.uk
Telephone: 0303 123 1113
We would appreciate the chance to deal with your concerns before you approach the ICO, so please contact us first if possible.
